Program Admission

Admission to the IMC certificate program is competitive. Each applicant is reviewed on the following criteria:

  1. Academic Record - 2.75 cumulative GPA, a bachelors degree from an accredited university and official transcripts from every undergraduate and graduate institution.
  2. Relevant education and/or professional experience - Prior Marketing or IMC related coursework (such as advertising, promotional strategy or similar courses) at the graduate or undergraduate level from an accredited institution of higher learning is required. Full or part-time IMC-related work experience or internship is preferred.
  3. Submit a résumé of relevant work experience.
  4. Letters of recommendation - letters of recommendation at least two individuals.
  5. Writing ability - A 300-500 word essay explaining the role of integrated marketing communications at a current or previous employer and how the knowledge gained from the IMC Certificate program could help the organization.

GRE or GMAT scores are not required for admission into the IMC Certificate program. However, if you feel these scores will enhance your overall application, you can choose to include them.

A Graduate School application must also be completed as part of the admissions process for this certificate program.

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting an official score report from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Languages Test System (IELTS), or the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB). Scores must be sent by the testing services directly to the University.

The IMC Certificate program is offered exclusively in an online format and admission is competitive. Acceptance is contingent on the number of available openings for each term.

Online Education for Out-of-State Students

It is great that you are considering Eastern Michigan University for your online degree program. Before you apply, though, it is critical that you make sure you are eligible to enroll in a program based in Michigan. EMU is an approved State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) Participant. That means EMU can enroll students into online programs who live in any SARA member state without seeking additional authorization from that particular state.

Check your eligibility to attend EMU: Is your state a SARA member? If yes, you are eligible to enroll in an EMU–Online program. If your state is not a SARA member, you may still be eligible to enroll at Eastern Michigan University. For more information, please click here.
