Co-Curricular Programs

Co-curricular programs are programs that “complement, but are not a part of the regular curriculum.” Eastern Michigan University offers many of these opportunities for students.

  •  A teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection as a means fo helping students gain a deeper understanding of course objectives, acquire new knowledge and engage in civic activity.

  • Area V: Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC)  A university education is about more than just classes. Students involved in activities outside of the classroom have higher retention rates and more positive educational experiences. Learning Beyond the Classroom encourages students to obtain hands-on experience and to learn about professionalism; it also provides a way to apply classroom knowledge. Learning Beyond the Classroom is a sub-section of the General Education curriculum.

  • The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program. Designed for students from all majors and minor interested in being involved in the community, NLA provides students with a National Certification in Nonprofit Management and Leadership and the corresponding Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential. By meeting the ten core NLA competencies our students are well prepared for successful careers in the nonprofit sector. The link to the NLA program is Check out this video about the NLA program.
