Dance Studies Placement for Musical Theatre
|
|
- Those with NO prior dance experience need not come to the Dance Audition but rather should register for DANC 100 Ballet Fundamentals for Non-Majors and DANC 113L1 Jazz I . These classes do not need to be taken in a particular order. They do not need to be taken in the same semester. Also, both are offered every semester.
- Students with some experience in dance will be assigned a level in Ballet, Jazz, and Modern on Dance Audition Days. Note: Dance Auditions do not occur at every School of Music and Dance Audition Day. To find out which Audition Days offer the Dance Audition, go to emich.edu/music-dance/dance/apply/audition-day.
- If students cannot attend one of those auditions, they should register for DANC 100 and DANC 113L1 and will be leveled on the first day of classes.
- Musical Theatre students who have a SIGNIFICANT background in Dance may wish to be leveled into Dance Major/Minor courses. If possible, those students should come to a Dance Audition offered on a Music & Dance Audition Day so that Dance Faculty may assign them an appropriate level of Ballet and Jazz.
- If unable to attend an Audition Day, Musical Theatre students with a SIGNIFICANT dance background but who wish to take Major/Minor courses should contact Sherry Jerome-Wilkinson (sjerome@emich.edu) to make arrangements for leveling on the first day of classes.
- Regardless of which course they take first, Musical Theatre students must take a total of FOUR (4) dance courses: 1) DANC 100 or a higher Ballet level; 2) DANC 113L1 or a higher level of Jazz, and either DANC 116 Musical Theatre Dance I and 4) DANC 117 Musical Theatre Dance II . Note: DANC 116 and DANC 117 are offered in the Winter semesters only and alternate by year. These two courses are cross-listed: DANC 116 and CTAR 116 are the same courses, while DANC 117 and CTAR 117 are likewise the same courses.
