K-12 Music Education (Vocal) - Voice Proficiency Requirements

The voice proficiency exam is typically taken after the 4th semester of secondary lessons but can be taken earlier.

Students typically perform the exam during the final semester jury of their fourth semester of voice study. Still, it can also be scheduled at a separate time by request of the voice faculty.

Requirements must include the following and be chosen by an applied voice faculty member along with the student:

  2. One prepared vocalise chosen from Concone 50 Lessons for Voice, op. 9, as assigned by the applied instructor. Available for high, medium & low at: imslp.org/wiki/50_Leçons_de_chant,_Op.9_(Concone,_Giuseppe).
  3. Major 9-note scale on [i e a ɔ u]
  4. One self-taught English art song as assigned by the applied instructor
