PLSC 327W - American Foreign Policy Process (GEWI)
This course explores the content and conduct of American foreign policy. It examines American foreign policy history, theories of decision making, foreign policy actors inside and outside government, as well as specific policy areas including national security, economic prosperity, the environment, and human rights.

The course will not only enhance students’ ability to think critically about American foreign policy, it will also help them to develop and express their ideas through the modes of writing used in the discipline of political science. By completing the writing assignments, students will become proficient in the forms and conventions of writing in the discipline and thus strengthen a variety of skills essential for research, including reading comprehension, the formulation of research questions, review of the scholarly literature, identification of appropriate sources of information and data, accurate summarization of complex arguments and information, analysis of data, and argumentation. Through conducting their own research and writing a research paper, students will strengthen their understanding of how scholars create knowledge of the world.
