This course is intended for students in the Interior Design program in the School of Engineering Technology (SET). The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to excel in writing that is relevant to the Interior Design profession. By connecting writing and design content more closely, this course will better prepare students for the expectations of the workplace, and improve their opportunities for professional advancement.

Interior design professionals must be able to use appropriate language for the appropriate audiences in presenting their ideas and designs. In the Interior Design profession, visual presentations are used to make the initial impact, however what is appealing to the eye needs to be justified on paper and followed through throughout the design process in order for designs to come alive. It is important for students to leave the program with sufficient knowledge about how to prepare and administer contract documents, how to use persuasion when pursuing potential projects, and how to engage in profitable discourse about any given design project. Inclusion of an intensive writing course that focuses strictly on the Interior Design profession will allow students to develop these skills. In contrast to most IDE courses, which emphasize the applications of interior design theory and technology via graphic presentation, this course focuses entirely on clear and concise writing. The writing activities will count for 75 percent of the course grade.
