ARTS 225 - Beginning Ceramics Beginning ceramics emphasizes hand-building techniques using earthenware and stoneware clays. The focus includes sculptural and utilitarian form; portrait busts, storage jars, platters, and cups are some of the assignments. Students learn to build forms using slabs, molds, modeling, and extruding techniques; alter surfaces, apply slips and glazes; and fire in electric and gas kilns.
