Asian peoples account for a significant portion of immigrants to the U.S. Asian American literature will provide a means for students to understand Asian American experiences in the U.S. through fiction and poetry, supplemented by occasional films. By discussing the relationship between literature and culture, students will identify issues related to ethnicity, class, and gender in the U.S. from multiple Asian perspectives. Understanding these issues can promote their success in the global U.S. community. For these reasons Literature 164 meets the requirements for a U.S. Diversity course in the General Education program.
