LING 422 - Introduction to Phonetics This course introduces students to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and the anatomical basis for transcribing speech sounds and the basic skill set involved in the acoustic analysis of sounds. Students are trained in the use of hardware and software to record and analyze speech and to look at various analytical displays. This course combines classroom lectures and activities as well as hands-on use of equipment and software guided by the instructors.
