MUSC 100 - Music Theory Fundamentals [GEKA]


Designed for the non-music major, an introduction to the basic elements of music: notation of pitch and rhythm, intervals, scales, chords, tonality, and form. Includes beginning aural training. A preparatory course for the music major or minor deficient in music theory and aural skills.

This course meets the Arts requirement for Knowledge of the Disciplines because students in this course learn the basic elements of music through the exploration of the underlying properties of organized sound. Enhanced critical perception is achieved through aural, verbal, visual analysis, and accompanied by an understanding of historical, cultural, and stylistic influences. Through this course, students develop basic skills in musicianship and gain a multifaceted understanding of the musical arts.
