LING 340 Language and Culture An introduction to a linguistic view of language and the ways it is influenced by the cultural and social context. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to: argots, jargon, metaphor, names, kinship systems, cross-cultural communication, ethnography of communication, dialectology and sociolinguistics, language and ethnicity, and language and gender.
