FRNH 121L5 Beginning French [GEKH or GELB] Introductory course including practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing in French. Sessions in the language laboratory are part of regular assignments.

Rationale for Knowledge of the Disciplines - To be able to communicate in French and appreciate linguistic and cultural similarities and differences, FRNH 121 students learn to produce through speaking and writing and to understand through reading and listening, the elements of the French language necessary to be able to function at a basic level in a French-speaking environment. Instruction in FRNH 121 provides examples of speaking and writing that native speakers use to accomplish real tasks; students learn to master these structures while developing a new perspective on their own language, and an appreciation of a foreign cultural viewpoint.
