GHPR 533 Leading Heritage Organizations General introduction to the field of historical administration and leadership presented with an emphasis on the establishment and workings of cultural resources management and museum/heritage sites. Attention is paid to creating a mission and vision for an organization; strategic planning; working with a board of directors; introduction to fundraising and development; advocacy; public relations; simple budgeting; and creating and responding to RFPs. Preservation planners will likely focus on creating a National Register Nomination with assistance from the State Historic Preservation Office; heritage site/museum concentrators will likely focus on specifics of creating scaffolded public programs.

Prerequisites - GEOG 505 Restriction by Major - Restriction by Degree Type - Graduate standing
Additional Information - Program faculty consider this a class that is best taken in the final year or semester of the program. While not technically a capstone class, it does require a good understanding of the professional requirements of the focus areas.
