GHPR 552 Materials Conservation I


Students are introduced to materials and methods used in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings and their historic furnishings. Building and furniture morphology, material morphology, materials and construction history, survey tools, assessment techniques, degradation causes, and preservation techniques are reviewed. Lectures and readings focus on wood, stone, brick, plaster, mortars, stucco, metals, finishes and furniture.
