HIST 503 Rogue Queens of Early Modern Europe

Queens such as Mary Stuart, Mary Tudor, and Elizabeth I of England not only had to confront issues of domestic and foreign politics, dynastic turmoil, and religious upheaval, they also had to wrestle with deeply ingrained prejudices against the notion of women as rulers. Students will come away from this class with an appreciation of how these women responded to the many challenges they faced as females and as queens.
