GHPR 505 Introduction to Heritage Preservation: History, Theory, Practice

Survey of the growth of heritage preservation in the United States. Historical foundation of preservation from the ground up; identification of preservation techniques, and federal, state, and private preservation agencies and legislation; recent challenges such as climate change and its effect on historic sites; sustainability and LEED certification for historic structures; intangible heritage as reflected in community preservation; and controversies related to historic district commissions, gentrification, and urban renewal.
