AFC 416 Heritage Tourism in Ghana This course will explore how those within the African diaspora have sustained a deep connection to the African continent despite being displaced through the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. In an attempt to understand this complex dynamic, students will first learn about the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Next, we will investigate how African Americans have sought to reconnect to their ancestral homeland through cultural and political movements. Finally, we will look at the particularities of Ghana as a unique site for African Americans’ relocation back to Africa and as a central hub for heritage tourism.
