The Computer Aided Engineering program at Eastern Michigan University places a strong emphasis on preparing engineers with competent backgrounds in the engineering principles and utilizing the computer-based tools and techniques for all engineering functions and processes.

The curriculum is designed to train the individual to apply knowledge in mechanical engineering, engineering analysis, product design, automated manufacturing, CAD/CAM/CAE, and renewable energy engineering systems using computer aided engineering tools. To facilitate this, students in the program will be exposed to the nature of engineering environment through courses related to engineering design and analysis principles, and renewable energy engineering applications.

The program offers graduate work leading to the Master of Sciences degree in Computer Aided Engineering (MS/CAE). The M.S. program has three tracks: Design and Analysis, Renewable Energy, and Thesis. The thesis track is intended for students who are research-oriented. The other two non-thesis tracks do not involve research although students are encouraged to include capstone projects in their courses.

Admission Requirements

Full Admissions
Applicants must:

  1. Meet degree admission requirements of the Graduate School. In addition, the applicant should submit a personal statement, a resume and three recommendation letters. GRE score is not required;

  2. Have a Baccalaureate from an accredited institution;

  3. Have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75;

  4. Meet program prerequisite skill requirements; and

  5. In the case of international students, meet graduate school test score requirements on the TOEFL and TWE, the MELAB, or the IELTS. See the Admissions Website for minimum scores or find the answers.

Conditional Admissions
Conditional admissions may be granted to otherwise qualified students who:

  • Lack prerequisite courses,

  • Have an undergraduate GPA less than 2.75,

  • Are not meeting TOEFL/English test requirements, or

  • Are currently in the last semester of their undergraduate degree program.
