Applicants must:

1. Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution;
2. Meet Graduate School admission requirements;
3. Have attained at least a 2.75 grade point average in the major field during the last two undergraduate years;
4. Personal Statement; and
5. two letters of recommendation.

Degree Requirements:

1. Selection, in consultation with the program advisor, of a course of study in historic preservation.
2. Completion of 36 hours of approved graduate-level course work beyond the bachelor’s degree as described below under course requirements.
3. Completion of prerequisite courses. The number of hours and the specific courses will be stipulated by the program advisor according to the student’s prior course work.

Courses are distributed among prerequisites, core, required, and restricted elective courses as follows:

Required Prerequisites: Up to 17 hours

Students must complete course work in each of the following foundation areas or have acceptable undergraduate equivalent:

• ARTH 472 - History of American Architecture  3 hrs
• GEOG 333 - Unsettled Geographies   3 hrs
• GEOG/GHPR 446 - Heritage Interpretation  3 hrs
• GHPR 475 - Architectural Nomenclature  2 hrs
• HIST 123 - United States to 1877  3 hrs
• HIST 124 - United States, 1877 to present  3 hrs
