Revised Program, effective Fall 2015
The mission of the Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics program is “To foster the education and training necessary to develop professionals committed to improving orthotic and prosthetic outcomes. As life-long learners, our graduates will be prepared to apply and advance the profession’s knowledge and evidence base.”

Admission Requirements:

Applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an academically accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4 point scale.
- Course work must include:
- Biology w/ Lab
- Six hours of Anatomy and Physiology or five hours combined course at EMU
- Chemistry w/ Lab
- Six hours of College Math; college Algebra and Trigonometry are recommended
- Physics w/ Lab
- Psychology
- Statistics
- Human Growth & Development or Abnormal Psychology
- Medical Ethics (recommended)
- Meet the requirements of the Graduate School and have a completed application on file.
- Submit GRE Scores directly to the office of admissions.
- Submit three letters of recommendation. If you have experience in an Orthotics and prosthetics facility, at least one of the letters must be from this source.
- Submit a 1,200-1,500 word essay explaining why you want to become an orthotist-prosthetist.
- Submit an OPCAS application, additional information can be found here.
Deadline for Submission
The completed application, transcripts and all other requirements must be completed and necessary paperwork received by the Office of Graduate Admissions no later than February 15th.
Notification of Admission
- Candidates will be notified of either acceptance or non-acceptance no later than March 15th each year.
- Non-accepted candidates will be ranked and may be contacted and offered admission if any of the initially admitted applicants decline acceptance.
Background Check
All students entering the Orthotics and Prosthetics graduate program at Eastern Michigan University are required to successfully complete a background screening prior to beginning the program. The student will pay the background screening fee directly to the appropriate vendor. Applicants for the Orthotics and Prosthetics program at Eastern Michigan University must be free of offenses that would disqualify one for employment in a health related field or to sit for a state licensing exam.

Coursework
Didactic course work is held mostly on weekdays and evenings. Clinical affiliations are offered during Spring and Summer semesters. Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics
Required Orthotics Courses: 14 hours
Required Prosthetics Courses: 12 hours
Notes:
Students must pass a comprehensive exam for completion of the program.
