Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Admission to EMU Graduate School (Criteria).
A Bachelors Degree from a 4 year accredited institution.
A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
Physical Education Teaching Certification.

Degree Requirements: 33 hours

To earn a Master of Science in Physical Education Pedagogy degree, students must complete a minimum of 33 hours form the following.

Core Courses: 8-12 hours

HPHP 505 - Basic Statistics in Health Promotion and Human Performance 3 hrs
HPHP 677 - Research, Theory and Design in Health Promotion and Human Performance 3 hrs
Select from either Option I or Option II:
Option I: 6 hours
PHED 690 - Thesis 1 hr
PHED 691 - Thesis 2 hrs
PHED 692 - Thesis 3 hrs
Option II: 2-3 hours

Students are required to take comprehensive examinations before beginning the Independent Study course below. One course from the following:
PHED 698 - Independent Study 2 hrs
PHED 699 - Independent Study 3 hrs

Pedagogy Emphasis Area Courses: 15 hours

Suggested Elective Courses: 6-13 hours

Six to thirteen hours selected in consultation with a graduate advisor.
