Actuarial science students take an intensive curriculum in mathematics, statistics, finance, and economics. The program provides courses in all of the areas of study recommended by the leading actuarial societies to prepare for an actuarial career. Students should be able to pass two or three of the professional exams sponsored by the actuarial societies before they graduate.
Opportunities
Students who earn an actuarial science degree and pass professional-society exams have excellent opportunities for careers in the insurance industry, as well as for careers in the related fields of finance and consulting. Some actuarial science majors also choose to go to graduate school for advanced studies in areas such as mathematics, economics, and financial engineering.
This is a designated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.
