This program is grounded in the creative and scholarly examination of the performing act. It is our belief that performance, whether based in the broad culture, aesthetics or everyday life, is the creative and expressive basis for understanding human action and interaction. Our mission is to provide courses and co-curricular activities that will engage students in a comprehensive, meaningful and rich process that culminates in explorations of performers, texts and contexts.

Program Admission
Applicants must:
- Meet the admission requirements for the Graduate School and be accepted into the program by the school;
- Have at least a minor or the equivalent in communication or speech;
- Have a minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.7 (exceptions on the recommendation of area faculty and the Graduate School); and
- In the case of international students, have a minimum TOEFL score (see the Admissions website for minimum scores).
International Transcripts - Students with non-U.S. post-secondary credentials must submit an evaluation of their international transcripts from one of four approved evaluation services for a detailed, course-by-course report. Applicants should allow 2-6 weeks for the completed evaluation. Please visit International Admissions for additional information.

Degree Requirements: 30 hours
The Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Interpretation & Performance Studies requires the completion of 30 hours of course work distributed among required courses, elective courses and cognate courses as follows
Required Core Courses: 6 hours
Core Concentration Requirements: 12 hours
Elective Course: 9-11 hours
Additional courses selected in consultation with an academic advisor based upon student’s individual needs.
Degree Requirement: 1-3 hours
