This major is built off of an articulation agreement, a specialized agreement between a four-year university, in this case, Eastern Michigan University, and a community college. Faculty from both schools collaborated to design an agreement that facilitates the smooth transfer of course credit from a two-year associate’s degree program to a four-year bachelor’s degree program.
This agreement is effective Fall 2020 - Summer 2023. Students have until Summer 2028 to graduate from Eastern Michigan University using this agreement.
The
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Applied) is designed for students who seek a solid foundation in computer science.
This is a designated STEM program (see OPT Extension).
Learn
Students begin with a core sequence of programming courses. They continue to build their skills through advanced courses, such as databases, networks, operating systems, and programming languages. The capstone course provides real-life experience through a team-based software development project.
Opportunities
The program offers a mix of practice and theory that prepares students for career employment in computer science fields such as systems programming and analysis, software development and maintenance, as well as applications programming.
The department encourages its students to be part of an active community by participating in student organizations. The professors encourage you to conduct undergraduate research and present at the Undergraduate Research Symposium and/or local computer conferences.
