Eastern Michigan University’s Master of Business Administration program is one of the most respected programs of its kind in Michigan. The program aims to prepare graduates to advance their careers as business leaders. Students gain valuable skills in professional communication, leadership, and quantitative and analytical decision-making. The program also provides students with business functional areas and strategic integration knowledge.
The program is ideal for working professionals who want to pursue the degree part-time while remaining employed. In addition, the program accommodates full-time study for domestic and international students. The College of Business offers classes in the evenings, online, or in a hybrid format, allowing students to pursue the degree at their own pace. Students may also choose from various concentrations and elective courses to customize their degree to suit their career goals.

Program Delivery
Whether enrolling on a full or part-time basis, MBA students will select from courses taught in-person, online (asynchronous), or hybrid. The choice to earn the degree in this mixed delivery format, or 100% online, is yours. The EMU MBA. Your Way.
Courses available to Online only students are delivered entirely in an asynchronous format, with no physical classroom. We can only guarantee that the “General Concentration” can be completed entirely online. Some courses in other specialized concentrations may require on-campus attendance.

Program Admission
Admit Terms and Deadlines
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; students may start the program in the Summer, Fall, or Winter. See Application Deadlines.
Minimum Graduate School Requirements
For full admission, applicants must have 1) Earned a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. institution, 2) a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate program. Conditional admission may be available to applicants who do not meet minimum admission requirements.
Program Requirements
Applicants must also meet the following program requirements. Requirements may be more stringent than the minimum graduate school requirements.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.75.
- A well-written Personal Statement indicating background and purpose for applying.
- An up-to-date resume.
- GRE/GMAT requirement: The GRE/GMAT requirement is waived for Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 applicants (applicants must satisfy all other requirements). A score of 450 or greater in the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), with at least 20 in the verbal section and 24 in the quantitative, OR an overall score of 297 or greater in the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), including scores of at least 143 in verbal reasoning and 140 in quantitative reasoning. The GMAT/GRE requirement will be waived, by email request to the Graduate Programs Office (cob_graduate@emich.edu), for applicants who meet any one of the following five criteria:
- Have a master’s or terminal degree from universities with an AACSB accredited college/business school (degrees from other institutions must be approved by the MBA curriculum committee).
- Have at least five years of managerial experience as determined by the MBA curriculum committee (e.g., experience with the responsibility of managing both people and budget).
- Have earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA from all six courses in the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration and/or approved equivalent courses (maximum of two).
- Have earned any other bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
- Have earned an AACSB-accredited Bachelor of Business Administration degree (minimum 60 credits)., with a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and an average GPA of 3.0 in statistics, accounting, and finance courses.
- Applicants whose native language is not English must submit a TOEFL score of 80 overall, with at least 20 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking sections; or an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 6.5 in reading, listening, and speaking; and at least 6.0 in writing.
Application
Your application will be submitted using BusinessCAS, a Centralized Application Service (CAS) hosted by Liaison. After reviewing the admission requirements, please review the application instructions and select the appropriate application below.
Domestic Applicants Domestic applicants are required to submit only the transcript from the institution granting their bachelor’s degree if either of the following criteria is met: 1) Lists 30 or more credit hours with an overall GPA of 3.0 or over OR 2) Lists 60 or more credit hours with an overall GPA between 2.7 and 2.99. Within the application, follow the instructions to submit an official transcript. The University may ask applicants to submit additional transcripts after applying.
International Applicants Before applying, applicants must review the international application/process deadlines at emich.edu/international as they may differ from general program requirements.

Foundation: 18 hours
All six foundation courses (18 credits) may be waived for students with an earned BBA from an AACSB-accredited school. However, all students, including those with a BBA from an AACSB-accredited school, must earn a grade of ”B” or above in a FIN 502 equivalent, or a grade of ”C”or above in a FIN 350 equivalent, and completed within the past 5 years at the time of taking FIN 620 .
Degree Requirements: 35-39 hours
A maximum of six credit hours from a previous Master’s degree may be transferred to the core MBA program.
Core Skills/Cross Functional Courses: 18 hours
Restricted Electives:
The student’s concentration determines the specific restricted electives requirements.
Concentration: 17-21 hours
Students will satisfy the requirements for one of the following concentrations. The concentration is noted on the student’s transcript but not on the diploma.
Department heads must approve course substitutions.
General Concentration: 18 hours
Required Courses: 12 hours
Students choosing the general concentration will select four advisor-approved electives from any 500 or 600-level courses offered within the College of Business. At least one of the four courses must be a 600-level course, and no more than two Independent Studies (699) or Special Topics (592/681) courses may be taken.
Restricted Electives: 6 hours

Critical Graduation Information
Each graduate student is responsible for fulfilling the requirements or equivalents of the Eastern Michigan University catalog in force at the time of their initial registration or a subsequent catalog, including the one in effect at the time of their graduation.
Master’s degree requirements must be completed within six (6) years of first enrollment in the master’s degree program.
In the event a student does not complete the master’s degree requirements within six years of the date of their original registration, the student may be required to have their credits re-evaluated by the academic department(s) of their degree in keeping with catalog requirements in force during the year of their graduation.
The following are minimum requirements for all master’s degrees awarded by Eastern Michigan University. Some programs require more than the minimum in one or more areas below.
- A master’s degree must require a minimum of 30 credit hours.
- No more than six credits of independent study courses and no more than 12 credit hours of special topics and independent study courses combined may be applied to a graduate degree.
- Residency Requirement:
- For students admitted to master’s degree programs of 36 or fewer required hours, at least 24 new graduate hours beginning the semester of acceptance and enrollment into the degree program must be earned at EMU. The remaining program requirement hours may be met through transfer or prior degree credit (EMU or elsewhere).
- For students admitted to master’s degree programs of 37 or more required hours, at least 30 new graduate hours beginning the semester of acceptance and enrollment into the degree program must be earned at EMU. Minimum degree hours must still be met for graduation. The remaining program requirement hours may be met through transfer or prior degree credit (EMU or elsewhere).
- Residency and enrollment in multiple programs: Students enrolled in multiple master’s/specialist degree programs must have 24 unique credit hours in each degree program.
- Only credits from one completed graduate certificate may be applied to a master’s or specialist degree in a relevant field of study, as determined by the Graduate School and with the approval of the degree-granting academic department, and be included in the residency hours above.
- Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in all graduate-level courses taken at EMU and in their program of study to remain in good academic standing and be eligible for graduation. Students do not need to be registered for classes during the semester of graduation.
- The Graduate School does not permit the use of undergraduate courses (499 and below) to meet degree requirements on graduate programs of study.
- Some master’s programs require a thesis; others require a special project or internship; others require students to pass a final exam. See the Graduate School website for Thesis and Dissertation Manuals, all forms, and information about research and human subject approval. Every completed thesis or dissertation must be submitted to Digital Commons. Any form of graduate student work submitted to Digital Commons must first be approved by a faculty advisor and the Graduate School.
