Program Admission
Admit Terms and Deadlines
Submitted applications and our rolling admissions process will begin on November 1. Applications are due February 1, with interviews occurring no later than April 1. All steps must be completed and admission requirements met by the deadline for your application to be reviewed by the school.
Minimum Graduate School Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be previously admitted to the undergraduate portion of the combined program.
Applicants must confirm with their advisor that they have completed enough undergraduate credits before applying to the graduate portion of the program. A student must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours before being fully admitted to the graduate portion of the program.
Program Requirements
Applicants must meet the following program requirements:
- 75 credit hours completed before application/portfolio submission.
- 90 credit hours completed before the AT program Summer I semester. If 90 credit hours are not completed by application submission, include a plan to demonstrate how it will be met.
- A minimum of a 3.00 overall GPA is required.
All general education courses must be completed before starting the Athletic Training Program (Summer I semester). During the winter semester, General Education courses can be taken during a portfolio review.
Applicants must have earned a “C” or better in a course in the following areas or provide documentation of credential (Course Completion Form):
Applicants must provide documentation of 50 observation hours with an ATC.* At no time during your observation can you represent yourself as an EMU “athletic training student.” You are a student applying to get into the Athletic Training Program.
- Two settings/populations must be observed
- Documentation of hours (provided form) signature of ATC with BOC number and state license number
- Volunteer form
- Two professional or academic letters of reference
*a majority of these hours are acquired in the ATTR 300W course
Applicants must include a personal statement including career goals, past experiences, and personal qualities. This statement will be used to evaluate the applicant’s ability to write professionally.

Application
Your application will be submitted using ATCAS, a Centralized Application Service (CAS) hosted by Liaison. After reviewing the admission requirements, please review the application instructions and select the appropriate application.
Domestic Applicants Within the application, follow the instructions to submit an official transcript from all previously attended institutions.
International Applicants Before applying, applicants must review the international application/process deadlines at emich.edu/international as they may differ from general program requirements.
The application deadline is February 1. Initially, applications will be evaluated for the minimum requirements (completion of the portfolio). The Athletic Training Advisory Committee will review applications that meet the minimum requirements. Applicants will be notified by March 1 if they will be granted an interview. Admission to the program is competitive; not all applicants will be given an interview.
