The Environmental Science Minor provides interdisciplinary training critical to scientific understanding of environmental issues. The required and elective courses integrate skills and knowledge from Biology, Chemistry, Earth System Science, Environmental Engineering, and Geographic Information Systems.
Students majoring in an Environmental Science and Society Science Concentration (Atmosphere and Climate, Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Geoscience, Water Quality) are not eligible to declare this minor.
Learn
Students take foundational courses in the basic sciences and an introductory environmental science course. These are followed by upper-level courses related to environmental science and the student’s interests. A combination of lecture, lab, and field experiences are incorporated into this minor.
Opportunities
This minor is ideal for students interested in pursuing careers that will benefit from combining another major (science, engineering, humanities, business, etc.) with an interdisciplinary environmental science background, e.g. environmental remediation, environmental health and safety, environmental law, resource management, water quality chemists, or wildlife refuge specialists. It also will satisfy natural curiosity about environmental science and provide a solid STEM background.
