SWRK 319W - Writing for Agency Practice (GEWI) This is a writing intensive course, preparing students for the professional writing components of professional, agency-based practice while developing professional writing skills focused on a simulated client situation.

Social work practice requires that record-keeping be accountable, efficient, and that it protect the client’s privacy. Good records are concise, specific, relevant, clear, logical, timely, meaningful, and useful. Records are grounded in fact, professional ethics, and accepted theory. Above all, high quality records are well organized and well written. This Writing Intensive course is based on the philosophy that the most effective way to improve student social work record-keeping skills is to practice writing actual social work records. To this end, the course will be modeled after a writing lab, where each week students will be working on a particular social work record-keeping document, such as an Intake Form, Social History, Plan of Care, Case Notes, Advocacy Letter, and using a simulated case this is the focus of the Social Work practice course SWRK 317 in which students are concurrently enrolled.
