Credit Hours: 3 hrs Grade Mode: Normal (A-F)
Typically offered Fall, Winter, and Summer (irregular)
This course meets the Global Awareness requirement of the Perspectives on a Diverse World because it seeks to give students knowledge and understanding of the political organization, religious beliefs, and cultural practices of the world’s peoples, and their interconnections over half a millennium. They will be encouraged to think globally so that they can see how events or new ideas that developed in one area, affected another, how America’s cultural practices related to those of other societies, how wars and imperialism produced radical political and economic changes and why social, cultural and racial intolerance existed in so many countries. In the process, students will work on their skills of reading and interpreting historical material, asking the questions that historians ask, and responding to questions both verbally and in writing. The most important goal of the course is to give students the knowledge and understanding of the past that they need to interpret the contemporary world.
