MUSC 107 - Music Appreciation [GEKA]


Guides the student in listening to and understanding various types, forms and styles of instrumental and vocal music of the world. Representative works of all periods and cultures, including contemporary developments, will be studied. Attendance at some concerts and recitals required.

Music is a window into the values and identity of a culture- past and present. To understand a culture’s music is to gain insight into the people who created it, who express themselves through it, and identify with it. Aesthetic education distinguishes people who have a university education. From the time of the ancient Greeks, music has been recognized as essential in the training of the mind, body and soul. Today, appreciation of music as an art from, and deeper understanding of the art of music, leads people to perceive qualities not found in the other arts.

MUSC 107 Music Appreciation guides the student in listening to and understanding various types, forms and styles of instrumental and vocal music of the world, representative works of all periods and cultures, including contemporary developments.
