Students in this course learn skills that enable them to promote improvements in social service organizations, social welfare systems, and communities for the purpose of empowerment, social and economic justice, and social change. They do this by working in groups to participate in activities that serve and enhance the community. Each student contributes at least 40 hours of such service. Through these experiences, students develop leadership, acquire skills in working collaboratively with others, prepare themselves for their careers, and broaden their understanding and empathy for others in the community.
