CHL 451W Writing about Controversy in Literature for the Young [GEWI and GELB] This course will deal with strategies for the collection, organization and presentation of materials dealing with controversial issues in literature for young adults.

Rationale for Learning Beyond the Classroom - This course is an academic service-learning course that allows students to integrate knowledge learned through class readings and discussions with service in the community. By working with a community-based organization that shares the course’s own focuses on reading and writing, find and evaluate specific and relevant research pertaining to the presentation of controversial issues in children’s and young adult literature, and demonstrate appropriate and effective leadership, interpersonal, small group, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
