MUED 220 Learning and Development in Music [GEKA]


This course is intended to prepare teacher candidates and others to successfully incorporate music as an integral and meaningful part of the elementary school curricula. In this experiential class, students will build basic skills and knowledge in music, understand musical development in children, gain skills for providing developmentally appropriate music and movement instruction for children, and develop strategies for integrating music and movement with other disciplines.

Credit 3 hrs May not be repeated for additional credit

Rationale for Knowledge of the Disciplines - A course to prepare pre-service teachers to successfully use music as an integral and meaningful part of the elementary school curricula. In this experiential class, students will acquire basic knowledge and skills to help young children. 1) Use music as a means to express ideas, feelings, and concerns. 2) Analyze music from both formal and contextual viewpoints. 3) Develop an understanding of the unique role of music in human experiences, as well as the commonalities it shares with dance, drama, and the visual arts.
