The Mathematics Minor is designed as a general introduction to the field of mathematics, focusing on learning critical analysis and problem-solving skills.
Learn
Students who complete the mathematics minor engage in topics such as the foundations of calculus, linear algebra, and a programming language. In addition, there is the freedom to include classes from pure math, applied math, and statistics as electives.
Opportunities
A mathematics minor is a good preparation for studies in various quantitative fields, such as engineering, the sciences, statistics, operations research, and management. Employers highly value people with a mathematics background because their excellent quantitative skills can be easily adapted to various contexts.
The department encourages everybody to be part of an active student community. Opportunities include a Math Club and the Math Gems lecture series. In addition, the professors encourage you to do undergraduate research and present at the Undergraduate Research Symposium and/or local mathematics conferences.
