Effective Communication [GEEC]

Communication is frequently cited as employers’ number one concern with college graduates. Education in speaking and writing is essential in helping students think clearly and in helping them organize and present their thoughts effectively. Individuals need to be able to communicate effectively for their advancement and their engagement with the world.
Written Communication
WRTG 121 - Composition II: Researching the Public Experience
- Students with an ACT English sub-score of 29 or higher, or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sub-score of 670 or higher, are waived from this requirement.
- International students may use ESLN 412 to meet the written communication requirement.
- Students may choose to complete WRTG 120 as an elective to prepare for the required WRTG 121 course.
Speech Communication
COMM 124 - Foundations of Speech Communication
- Students with a very strong background in oral communication (public speaking and critical listening) may contact the School of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts at 124 Judy Sturgis Hill, 734.487.3131, for a possible waiver of the required COMM 124 course. Waivers are granted only on a case-by-case basis.
