Revised Program [Fall 2024]
The Fashion Marketing Innovation (FMI) program offers this minor with courses for basic career-oriented knowledge in textile science, design, and manufacturing. It also provides theoretical foundations and skills in these three aspects of a textile career. Students gain basic technical knowledge to develop new products and solve problems related to textile materials and clothing manufacturing. The program also helps develop skills in sales-enhancing techniques.
Learn
FMI program students will learn basic pattern-making using Gerber software and Abode Suite Software in addition to traditional pattern-making techniques. Students will also learn to use Gerber Technology Pattern Design software and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) industrial fabric cutting equipment. Students will also learn product evaluation in textiles, an integral part of any product development activity. A well-equipped garment construction lab comprising home, embroidery, and industrial sewing machines prepares students for the automotive, apparel, and furniture industries. Students can study abroad to gain diverse knowledge of textiles, fashion, and culture internationally.

Because of the program’s diverse scope of training, FMI students are well-trained to enter more career opportunities. Several career opportunities include Trim Engineering, Buyers, Visual Merchandising, Product development for the textile industry, Product evaluation and quality control, Product acceptance specialist, Resourcing Manager for merchandising companies, Entrepreneurs, and Boutique Owners.
