GEOG 311 History and Geography of the Modern World


This thematically-based course integrates the study of modern world history and geography. It is primarily, but not exclusively, designed for future teachers of social studies. Course themes may vary by year; examples include nations and nationalism, colonialism and responses to it, migration history, borders, the north-south global economic divide, world-systems theory, and international human rights. Students engage in active learning and research projects as well as lectures, reading, and discussion.
